The battlefield is set. Everyone has their positions. Its Us against Them. The location? Your child’s school, your TV, your workplace, and everywhere else you go today. And like most wars, people don’t even know what we’re fighting for, or sadly enough, they don’t know that there even is a war.
What is this war? It’s the battle over truth. In our public schools your children are taught that all truth is relative to each situation. Just because something is morally true for them, does not mean that it is right for the child sitting next to them. They are taught that truth can be adapted for each situation and that ultimately they can define what is true for them. Not only is this taught in the schools, but is reinforced by the movies and television shows we watch and even through music we listen to.
This teaching of relative truth is conniving and deceptive. It has been dressed up and labeled politically correct so that it can’t be perceived as offensive to anyone.
The Truth War is not new. It has been going on for more than two thousand years. Look at Matthew 21:23-27. The Pharisees question Jesus on His authority to do these miraculous works, and Jesus puts the question back in their court. He asks them to tell Him whether the baptism of John was from heaven or from men. The Pharisees are faced with a dilemma, if they say of heaven, they will have to believe Jesus is who He said He is. If they say of men, they fear the multitude will rise against them because the people believed that John was a prophet. So the Pharisees do what most people do when the truth doesn’t fit what they want to believe. Their response is found in verse 27; “And answering Jesus, they said, ‘We do not know’…”
The same response is given today by people not willing to hold to the truth which God has given them. Our culture has taught us to challenge the beliefs that most of us were brought up with and believe what only appeals to us. The danger in this, is that by ignoring the absolute truths of God we are sealing our own destruction. The Truth is, God has given us standards and principles to live by, not to restrict us or punish us, but to protect and guide us into a life fulfilled by Him.
How are you preparing your child for this battle? Have you given them the correct armor to protect themselves? Does your child know the basic principles of God’s truth to be able to distinguish truth from fallacy. The church will assist in teaching these truths but for these truths to be prominent in your child’s life they must be taught by you, the Parent.
Do you know the truth? Don’t be deceived by what the world calls truth. Search the Scriptures and pass on a legacy of truth to your children. Teaching our children the truth today will allow us to win the battle tomorrow.
You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. Deuteronomy 6:7 ESV
