I’ve been praying about our new Wednesday night student service a lot lately. Praying for guidance and direction to lead the youth group and also praying for the Lord to move and work in the hearts of the kids who show up.

Last night was the first night we started changing some things up and trying out new ways to do the old things. After much prayer, it was decided that we would kick off the new year with a new series in the book of Daniel. All in all I think it went pretty well. I gave the first sermon on Daniel 1 and it was refreshing to see the kids catch on to the teaching, interact, and relate it to their life.  Praise God!

As far as my sermon  went, I came up with a typical three-pointer.

#1. Daniel was recruited: (unwillingly) Daniel 1:1-7

#2. Daniel was resolved : Daniel 1:8-16

#3. Daniel was rewarded: Daniel 1:17-21

I related it to their life in this way

#1. You are recruited: unwillingly or willingly (school, work, parties, hangouts, etc.)

#2. You need to be resolved: Your mind has to be made up before your put in certain situations

#3. You will be rewarded: God rewards obedience and what the rewards look like (Earthly & Heavenly)

We broke out into small groups and did some discussion questions and had really great feedback from most of the kids.

It is so good to see God working and moving in the lives of our kids and even in me.

I can’t wait till next week when Justin brings the sermon and we get an opportunity to do it all over again!
