Take 5 minutes and watch this short video from Desiring God. It was shown at the National Conference and was emailed to me this morning. After watching this myself, I felt the need to repent, not only of the way I use words towards others but for the hypocrisy that sometimes surfaces.

Question: Why do we treat the worst those we love the most. This video shows a family being discourteous and impatient with each other and suddenly to those who they see only briefly each week they are warm, courteous and model chuch members. Here is what I think. We act toward people according to how we think they view us. At church where people only see the superficial person, we put up our guard and give them what they want. At home with those who know the ‘real’ us we drop our guard and act out who we really are. Ouch! (guess how I know this) Just as this video exemplifies we are all guilty to a degree. The measure of a man’s faith is not what he is at church or even work or school. His faith can be measured by how he treats his wife and children, behind closed doors when no one is watching. (wives and kiddos take note as well) In Ephesians 5 the command is given to be controlled by God’s Spirit and the application is to the family unit and the work environment and doesn’t even mention the church except as an example of sacrifice. Think about it! Dad
