Can we redefine our faith? Brian Mclaren thinks so. This book has gotten a lot of buzz around evangelical circles because of the content found in Mr. Mclaren’s newest work. While I have read a little about this book I wasn’t too concerned because the hubbub seemed to be in evangelical circles. We evangelicals get worked up over minor infractions and are ready to die on a hill, any hill, if it will get people to notice. “We” remind myself of another certain religious group in time past (can you say Pharisee?)
However there is something to be said for this hill. It is one worth dying on and for. We cannot redefine the doctrine of Christiology, theology, ecclesiology and all those other ology words. As Al Mohler says in the NPR interview “… if we make Jesus Christ out to be the victim instead of the Savior, then we have no Gospel at all!” Amen!!! If we have no Gospel we have no hope.
I haven’t read Mr. Mclarens newest book. For me to bash him based on what others are saying would only perpetuate the problem with “us” evangelicals. Instead I ask that you heed what you read and be careful of who you promote.
