Last weekend, Valerie and I were commissioned as Mission Service Corp Missionaries with the North American Mission Board (NAMB).

We spent five days in Tampa training and networking with other missionaries from around the country and Canada. I can only explain the time we had there as… AWESOME.  The training was ok, I don’t know anybody that likes being stuck in a classroom for 8 hours but the opportunity to get to meet other people who are doing what we are doing, understand the struggles that we go through as well as being encouraged by hearing their stories, made the trip worthwhile.

NAMB has posted an article about the commissioning as well as a few photos. If you look real hard in the back left corner of this photo, you can see Valerie and myself.

BRANDON, Fla –  The North American Mission Board (NAMB) commissioned 81 new missionaries and chaplains at a special commissioning service attended by some 800 at First Baptist Church in Brandon, Fla., on Sunday, March 20.

In his first-ever missionary commissioning sermon, Larry Wynn, NAMB’s new vice president for evangelism, drew the crowd’s applause when he looked out over the pews of missionaries and told them that “you are the real heroes.

“You are sacrificing to go where God is calling you. You’re leaving family, friends, familiar surroundings, your comfort zone and the things you love to go and make a difference. We’re going to reach North America because of men and women like you,” Wynn said.

You can go to NAMB’s website to read the whole article.
