Elevation Church is a large, trendy church in Charlotte, NC  and the church is always an easy target when it comes to criticism  because they are popular, trendy, new, and different. But they may want to reconsider their policies regarding having a distraction free service. (You’ll have to click on over to youtube to watch it.)

Have you ever been distracted in church? I have been in services with special needs children and they can be distracting. I have also been in services where the adults attending were more distracting. Better yet there was a Sunday when a bird flew into the sanctuary and caused all kinds of commotion! How dare he(or her, it’s hard to tell with birds). And don’t let me forget about newborns, they suddenly burst out crying ruining my worship experience.

I wonder how many services that they have had that are distraction free ? Do the volunteers escort you out one by one as they see you becoming a distraction? You could start out with 1000 in attendance and by the end of the service be down to 543. But what about escorting these people out? That could be quite distracting and we would need someone else to escort out the volunteers escorting out the distracting individuals.

I pray that Elevation will reconsider their policy. If the church is not about ministries  and only worship then they are not a church. Christ has called us to worship but we’ve also been called to serve just as the Son of Man came to serve. And we shouldn’t focus on the distractions because there will always be distractions.

Looks like YouTube took down your video after you linked it. Interesting story–it is a balance–I’ll go find it.
