My name is Daniel Schilling. I am a fundamentalist Christian. I am currently posting my September 11th Epic Poem on my home blog.

I noticed your post about evangelism quotes and felt I stop by and comment. For the most part they were pretty good, although I’m not sure that Tony Campolo deserves to be on the page. His comment about poor kids in Africa, like a lot of his writing, is a diversionary tactic. Of course we should be reaching out to the poor Africans. After all, wasn’t it the Evangelicals that risked their lives to modernize Africa in the first place? Preaching the gospel and humanitarian work have always gone hand in hand. But to try to sidestep the gospel and focus on simply the humanitarian work, is something promoted by the Devil.

The context in which I believe Tony is speaking of here is not necessarily humanitarian work but about focusing all time, money, and energy on things that don’t have any importance in the Kingdom. The fact that there are starving kids in Haiti is as important as the fact that they need the gospel as well. Are physical needs of no consequence? However after review of the quote you are correct and it really does not belong with evangelism quotes. Thanks for reading and post back your blog address. I’m interested in reading your poem.

My name is Astrid. Mother of 2. Wife of 1. We live in St. Louis, MO. My kids are nearly grown and I’m on a mission to find myself since I got lost 20 years ago in the diapers and now the subsequent carpools, sports and jockstraps. I post my daily frustrations on my blog in the hopes that in a month or two or six or ten, I will come back, re-read it and realize I have laid down my martyrdom and became a happy woman.
